Microsoft Teams administrators can apply organization-specific branding to eligible apps in the Teams Store. The customization is visible only within your Microsoft 365 organization and does not change the app’s functionality.
Microsoft supports this workflow only for Teams Store apps that the publisher has made customizable. It does not apply to custom apps uploaded as ZIP packages. If your Living Security app was uploaded from a regional package, do not edit its manifest. Contact your Living Security representative before changing its name or assets.

Prerequisites

  • A Microsoft Teams administrator account with a Teams client license
  • An app that shows Yes in the Customizable column in Teams admin center
  • Approved names, descriptions, links, colors, and icons for your organization
  • Permission to use the supplied logos, images, and brand content

Prepare Your Branding

Teams displays only the fields that the app publisher allows you to change. Depending on the app, these fields can include:
Custom branding does not change the app publisher or identity. Microsoft permission-consent dialogs and app usage reports continue to show the publisher’s original app name.

Names in Regional App Packages

For a Living Security app installed from a regional ZIP package, the app name and the bot sender name are separate. For example, messages can show a custom sender name while the app header still shows Living Security Platform EU. The app package contains both name fields:
  • Short name (name.short) controls the name shown in the Teams app header and other space-limited areas.
  • Full name (name.full) is used where Teams has enough space, including the app catalog and app details.
Do not edit the regional package manifest directly. Give your Living Security representative the approved short name, full name, and icons. Living Security will generate a tenant-branded package while preserving the app, bot, and single sign-on identities. Your Teams administrator can then upload that package as an update to the existing app. Allow up to 24 hours for the updated name to appear in all Teams clients.

Apply Default Branding

Use a default customization when all allowed users should see the same branding.

Confirm that the app is customizable

Open Microsoft Teams admin center, then go to Teams apps → Manage apps. If the Customizable column is not visible, select Edit columns and turn on Customizable. Search for the app and confirm that its value is Yes.

Open the customization form

Select the app, then open the form using one of these options:
  • Select Customize in the Manage apps toolbar.
  • Open the app details page and select the edit icon under Customizable.
  • Open the app details page and select Actions → Customize.

Enter your organization branding

Update the available names, descriptions, links, icons, and colors. Teams shows only the fields that the app publisher allows administrators to change.

Apply and publish the customization

Select Apply, preview the app details, and then select Publish. Publishing makes the customized version available in your organization’s Teams Store and Teams clients.

Verify the result

Open the app details page and confirm that each edited field shows the new value. Check the app in Teams on the web, desktop, and mobile for a pilot user.Microsoft notes that updates can take up to 24 hours to appear for all users and administrators.

Create Branding for Specific Groups

If different groups need different branding, create an additional customization after publishing the default customization. Microsoft allows up to 10 additional customizations for an app.
  1. In Teams apps → Manage apps, open the app.
  2. Select Settings and customization.
  3. Select Add a customization or Add.
  4. Enter the group-specific branding and select Apply.
  5. Select the customization, then select Manage assignments.
  6. Assign an app setup policy and select Close.
Assigning an app setup policy to a customization controls which branding those users see. It does not install or pin the app. Configure app installation and pinning separately in the setup policy.

Reset the App Branding

To restore the publisher’s default branding for all users who receive the default customization:
  1. In Teams apps → Manage apps, open the app details page.
  2. Select Actions → Reset to default.
To remove an additional customization, first remove its app setup policy assignment. Then select the customization under Settings and customization and select Remove.

Troubleshooting

Confirm that the Customizable column shows Yes. App publishers decide whether an app and its individual fields can be customized. Uploaded custom apps are not supported by this admin-center workflow.
Confirm that you selected both Apply and Publish, then allow up to 24 hours for propagation. Verify that the user is allowed to use the app and, for an additional customization, is assigned the intended app setup policy.
Microsoft Teams shows the publisher’s original app to external and guest users. Organization-specific customizations apply only to users in your organization.
