# permission_denied

> Public API error permission_denied — the required permission is explicitly denied for this principal (HTTP 403).

| **Code** | `permission_denied` |
| **HTTP status** | `403 Forbidden` |
| **Retryable** | No |

## What it means

The credential authenticated successfully, but the permission this operation requires is explicitly denied for the principal. Unlike [`insufficient_permission`](/developers/v1/errors/insufficient_permission) (permission simply not granted), an explicit deny overrides any grant.

## What to do

* Ask your organization's administrators to review the deny rule on the credential's service account.
* If the deny is intentional, use a different credential that is allowed to perform this operation.
* Do not retry with the same credential until the deny is removed.
